There was very little help from our feathered friends this week.  Moving between structures made trips this week productive.  Pictured above is Joel Swift who purchased a donated trip (where the money goes towards this years MSSA Scholarship Fund).

The most productive lures were 4" Bass Assassins, in a variety of colors, rigged on 3/4 ounce jigheads.

The most productive technique (light spinning tackle):
Horizontal Jigging-open the bail, cast the lure out, keeping the bail open.  At this point water haul line off the reel, enough to allow the lure sink to the desired depth where it hits the water.  Start jigging the lure by moving the rod tip horizontally above the water rather than vertically keeping all the slack out of the line at all times.

Water Haul Line Off the Reel: With the bail open and when the lure hits the water, put the rod tip down just above the water.  The line will have no slack in it at this time.  Swiftly lift the rod tip 90 degrees, or to 12 o'clock.  Line will come off the reel as swift as possible for approximately 6'.  If the fish are 16' deep water haul line off the reel 2 1/2 times.  The lure will sink where it first hit the water to 15' deep (6' x 2 1/2 times).  This will put and keep your lure in productive waters more often.

Trips are now available, giving you a chance to catch striped bass on top water with fly or light tackle equipment, for those who were waiting for this time of year.
