Fishing Report - 4th Week of August 2008 |

striped bass to 23" and bluefish
between 3 to 6 pounds supplied some Light spinning tackle spooled with 30# fiber line, and quality 30# fluorocarbon leaders were needed when the toothy bluefish were hooked. Striped bass will shy away from steel leaders and hardware, so none were used. There are also some spanish mackerel now in the Middle Chesapeake Bay. Fishing Forecast for the Month of September Quality striped bass, bluefish, and spanish mackerel will be ready for the catching in the Middle to Lower Chesapeake Bay. Fly-fishing equipment in the 9 weight size can be used on all these species, with floating line. This size equipment will allow you to put pressure on the fish to bring it to the boat without over stressing the larger fish. Last year at this time, there were 7 to 10 pound bluefish busting top water at Drum Point, Cedar Point, and the Hollow (as shown below). Week and weekend dates are still available.
