CBBT Striped Bass Fishing Report

Bill Johnson and I fished the Atlantic Ocean on Thursday, 1/5/12. We saw whales, dolphins, and striped bass feeding on these 4 to 9 inch menhaden. The striped bass have not yet schooled up at this location yet, but were scattered as we watched many caught by anglers trolling.

Friday we ran south on the Atlantic Ocean without any luck so we headed for the CBBT. Once there we were greeted by striped bass. They fought hard, were fat, and full of sea lice. Catching these hard fighting fish was an enjoyable way to finish the day.

Saturday Bill and I decided to stay on the Atlantic Ocean and target large striped bass. I had the pleasure of landing the nice 40” striper on light spinning tackle.

Sunday, as we crossed the CBBT, there were countless gannets, sea gulls, and terns working the water, on the Ocean side of the CBBT. This is the 1^st year since 2008 where I can say that in January there are some nice striped bass at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel for both the fly and the light tackle angler.
